Mardi Himal Trek Kathmandu

Description

Mardi Himal trek is one of the shortest treks which lies in the Annapurna Region. This trek was accessed only by limited trekking groups with tents and catering team for a long time and now has been accessible for wanderer these days. It lies at an elevation of 5,587 meters above sea level. This trek has been distinguished with the view of exquisite Macchapuchhure Himal (6.993Mt) on the backdrop and for the view of Cloud Lake that can be witness on favorable weather.

The trek follows beaten trails of shepherds as it still provides summer grazing. The trek was officially opened in 2012 and is still pristine. There are limited teahouses with basic facilities. This is a short relatively easy and unspoiled trek not far from Pokhara. Yet it is highly diverse with cultural insight, beautiful forest walks, and alpine landscape. As the trail mostly stays along the ridge, the altitude gain becomes more gradual.

DAY 1: DRIVE TO KANDE AND TREK TO POTHANA (2,232 m) 7 hours

Early morning, we will take the bus to Kande Kaski, via Prithivi Highway from Kathmandu. As you know the road Prithvi highway to Pokhara is one of the busiest roadways in Nepal. The road tackles through the sneaky way of Mid hill with some major towns like Dumre, Damauli, Abu Khaireni, Muglin and few more.  When you reach to Pokhara, you could see majestic fishtail is standing tall to welcome us on clear weather. After that, we go through the highway of Baglung to the only Kande. After getting off at Kande we will hike up to Pothana for an hour and it will be the first stop for the trek.

DAY 2: TREK TO FOREST CAMP (2,600 m / 5 hrs)

After fleeing away vehicle lag with the stay in Pothana then with a beautiful morning in the ridge-top village of Deurali, we will observe the scenic dawn. We will head off the main Annapurna trekking trail and follow the forested ridge to Forest camp. Since this is a new trekking destination, there are tea houses however very minimum along the way and we need to carry pack lunch and sufficient water. The day’s walk in the rhododendron forest is beautiful with gradual uphill.

DAY 3: TREK TO HIGH CAMP ( 2,950 m /3 Hrs)

The trail gradually climbs through the rhododendron forest following the ridge. The low camp has got a couple of tea houses in the clearing of the forest. The view of Mt Fishtail and Mardi Himal will appear much closer. You will find yourself closer to clear blue sky with a view of layers of Himalayan foothills and a sweeping valley towards the south. FYI: You can trek 1 more hour to Badal Danda (Cloud Hill) above the tree line in the consent of a guide for a better view. There is only one lodge in Badal Danda.

DAY 4: TREK TO BASE CAMP AND BACK TO LOW CAMP (6 HRS / 3,580 m)

The trail further climbs along the ridge towards Mardi Himal and Mt Fishtail. From Badal Danda, we will leave the tree line and arrive in the shrubby alpine zone. Snowcapped peaks of Annapurna South, Huinchuli and Fishtail loom in a distance above the deep valley on either side. High camp is a small pasture after the climb with 3 lodges. Here you find yourself above the clouds and closer to snow-capped peaks.

DAY 5: TREK DOWN TO SHIDING GO TO POKHARA VIA JEEP

It’s now time to descend back to Siding. The trail demands around 4 hours of a bit steep and slippery descent. The harsh trail takes you into a beautiful traditional village of Siding. And we will get the jeep to Pokhara and have an experience of nightlife in Pokhara lakeside.
